The Great Motorboat Tour

We’ve dipped into our archives and found “The Great Motorboat Tour”, a video series we sponsored back in 2011 through  Motorboat Monthly.   Watch John Boyle (An award winning international Marine and Wildlife documentary maker) and Fionn Crow Howieson, as they prepare for their trip around the British Isles in a 34ft Sealine.  Click here to watch from the start, but close to your heart we share a few episodes where the adventurers set off around Ireland.

Crinan to Campbeltown. Shark Bay sets off towards Ireland...but the outlook is still not good

Having experience poor weather which still remains the forecast – ‘Shark Bay’ leaves the calm of the Crinan Canal behind and heads west towards Portree – the first place to ever record deaths from sharks!

Portrush to Cleggan along the coast of Northern Ireland

Watch as the adventurers leave Portrush on a 5 hour leg to Burtonport, but heavy swell and poor conditions see ‘Shark Bay’ take a break at Sheephaven.

Cleggan to Kilrush. Heading south along the west coast of Ireland towards the Shannon.

Watch as they head south along the west coast of Ireland towards Shannon, but disaster strikes twice which leaves the crew feeling drained and low in enthusiasm so they spend the night in Shannon Estuary.

Kilrush to Dingle. This next leg starts with great footage of dolphins in the Shannon estuary.

It’s more difficult seas and strong winds as Shark Bay has more engine problems and limps towards Dingle…the seaside village made famous by the filming of Ryan’s Daughter on the golden sands of the strand.

The Skelligs to Fastnet Rock. The very west tip of Europe as you've never seen before!

The Skelligs – known for wild and very rocky surfaces and incredibly remote. Continue to watch their adventures as they head toward Fastnet Rock.

Sherkin Island to Kilmore Quay. The great adventure turns eastwards on the run for home

Watch as the Explorers enjoy the local colour and traditional Irish music as they pass Cork.  Followed by a stop off into the marina at Kinsale for breakfast and refuel, which became a minor issue for our explorers, then cross to Kilmore Quay before over to Wales.

We’ve enjoyed working with John Boyle over the years, to create some amazing footage of the beautiful coastline at it’s best.   You get to be on this journey, experience the highs and lows as John Boyle and Fionn Crow Howieson set off on some very exciting adventures.
